"...my house will be called a House of Prayer."
The threshing floor in Scripture was a place of surrender, worship, sacrifice, and divine encounter. It was the place where David built an altar, where mercy met judgment, and where Solomon’s temple would one day be established. It was a place where heaven touched earth.
We are praying for a church like that.
When Jesus entered the temple, He said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer.” That is the kind of church we long to become — not a people built first on programs, personality, or performance, but on the presence of God.
We believe prayer is not preparation for the work.
Prayer is the work.
It is how God forms His people, sends His people, and fills a city with the hope of the gospel.
Church at the Threshing Floor is being planted with this conviction: that the Lord wants to raise up a praying people in Winston-Salem who encounter Jesus deeply, follow Him fully, and carry His presence into every neighborhood, home, workplace, school, and street.
We are asking God to make this church a house of prayer for the city — a place where people meet Jesus, are made whole, and are sent to saturate Winston-Salem with the beauty of the gospel.
What We Are Praying To Become a People
Surrendered to the presence of God.
Not hurried, hollow, or religious — but alive to His nearness and yielded to His lordship.
Devoted to the
Word of God.
Rooted in Scripture, anchored in the gospel, and shaped by the truth that leads us to Christ.
Dependent on God through prayer.
A house of prayer for the city — seeking His face, moving by His power, and trusting Him for what only He can do.
Sent on mission with the hope of the gospel.
Carrying the beauty of Jesus into our homes, neighborhoods, workplaces, and city.
For Winston-Salem. For the nations. For the glory of God.
Meet Chris & Amanda Barrans
Church at the Threshing Floor is being planted through the prayer, calling, and obedience of the Barrans family.
Chris and Amanda have spent years loving the local church, building community, discipling people, opening their home, serving families, and learning what it means to follow Jesus together in everyday life. Over time, God began stirring a shared burden for Winston-Salem: to see people deeply formed by Jesus, rooted in the Word of God, filled with the Spirit, and joyfully sent on mission.
This church is not simply a ministry assignment for Chris. It is a family calling.
Together, Chris and Amanda are praying for a church where people encounter the presence of God, are formed through Scripture and community, find healing and holiness in Jesus, and are sent to love their neighbors, serve the city, make disciples, and multiply gospel witness.
They are being sent by Definition Church and are preparing to launch Church at the Threshing Floor in Winston-Salem in March 2027.
Why Winston-Salem?
We love this city, and we believe Jesus does too.
Winston-Salem is a city with beauty, history, creativity, pain, growth, and deep spiritual need.
Over the last several months, we have been building relationships with pastors, churches, and ministry leaders across the city. Through groups like Carolina Movement, Christ Together, and other friendships and networks, we have seen something beautiful: a city where gospel-centered churches are praying together, building bridges, and longing to see every person reached with the hope of Jesus.
We believe God is inviting us to join what He is already doing.
We are not coming to compete with faithful churches. We are coming to serve the city, strengthen the Church, preach Christ, make disciples, and join the mission of God in Winston-Salem.
